On Saturday 11th November the U10 Girls Hockey Team travelled to Foremarke Hall for the annual Foremarke Hall U10 Girls Hockey Tournament. This tournament is always a good gauge as to where Prep School U10 Girls Hockey is and how much work needs to be done to help them achieve to their potential at U11, the following year.
I am pleased to report that we are in a healthy position with our U10 Girls Hockey team. They were drawn in the tougher group having to play five group games rather than the four the teams in the other group had to play. They won their first game against Foremarke Hall B 2 – 0 and their second game against Spratton Hall A 5 – 0. This put them in a great position in the group with three games to go. Their next group game saw them play Sutton Coldfield Hockey Club. This was a tough game which the girls completely dominated until they were caught out by a swift counter attack which resulted in them losing 1 – 0. This could have affected their confidence and their approach to the remaining games but they bounced straight back into winning ways against Beeston Hockey Club winning 3 – 0. This left them with the task of beating Fairfield to progress to the semi-finals. Yet again they dominated possession and field position but could not break the deadlock and as the game finished in a 0-0 draw their fate was sealed finishing third in the group and missing the semi-finals by a solitary point.
Nevertheless, their collective and individual performances were at such a level that all of the girls should be very proud of what they achieved on Saturday. This yet again proves that the standard of Hockey at Ratcliffe Prep is of an ever growing high level and that year on year we are seeing the girls’ hockey development get stronger and stronger. Well done girls, I am looking forward to seeing how your Hockey develops in Year 6.
