Regretfully, it was necessary to postpone our Ratcliffe Music Society Chamber Concert which was due to take place last Tuesday, however we look forward to rescheduling and the event returning with even bigger plans than before later in the year. All was not lost, however, as the department supported our Lent Mass last Friday with passion and gusto, with a particularly fine rendition of the anthem ‘God So Loved The World’ from a staff quartet during communion.
My thanks go to all our scholars who will be supporting the department in tomorrow’s Open Morning – we very much look forward to showcasing our wonderful department to our many guests. If you are around, make sure to pop in between 10am and 10.30am, when we will be having our open Orchestra rehearsal which is not to be missed.
Congratulations to all those who put themselves forward to audition for a solo in next Friday’s Spring Concert – you will receive the outcome of your audition via an e-mail from me this weekend. Needless to say, all auditionees were wonderful and they should be very proud of their bravery and talent. The concert itself is shaping up to be something very special indeed, with highlights including the Orchestra’s rendition of the final movement of the notorious Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, the Choir’s haunting interpretation of Karl Jenkins’ ‘Adiemus’ and the Swing Band getting us on our feet with the theme from ‘Ghostbusters’. Tickets can be purchased here and there are still a few remaining, don’t miss out! We do hope you will be able to join us next Friday at 7pm in the Theatre.
Wishing the very best of luck to all the students taking an ABRSM next Monday and Tuesday as part of our termly session – remember, playing in front of an examiner is an opportunity to show them how brilliant you are, so seize the opportunity and shine. We have a number of Grade 8s and even a Diploma being examined, so a very special couple of days coming up.
The annual House Music competition will take place on the penultimate day of term, and we are now truly into the thick of rehearsals. I am very proud of all the students who have put themselves forward to lead their houses in this endeavour, and implore all those taking part to support them by ensuring they attend all rehearsals. We are so looking forward to hearing the fruits of your labours in just a few weeks’ time.
Wishing you all an enjoyable, musical fortnight.
Mr Harris, Director of Music
