Meet the Marines Day
On 25th January, nine Army/RAF Cadets travelled early in the morning to a very cold, but sunny Covenham Reservoir in Lincolnshire for a day with the Royal Marine Commandos. After an in-depth presentation from their recruitment team on arrival, the cadets were then split into different teams, along with several other schools also attending. It was an active and fun-filled day, covering various aspects of what the Royal Marine Commandos actually do as part of their daily work. The event included high speed boat rides, climbing wall, weapons demonstration, physical training session and the unique opportunity to talk with the Royal Marines in small groups to discover what life is like. The PT session certainly tested the fitness of our cadets and the day ended with a display of un-armed combat by the Marines themselves.
Air Experience Flying Day
Friday 2nd December we thought was possibly going to be a cancelled flying day due to the weather. However, we set off to RAF Cranwell and all eight RAF Cadets were able to take to the sky with their pilots. Three of the cadets experiencing this exciting opportunity for the first time. All of the cadets were encouraged by their pilots to take over the controls themselves, under close guidance and performed several manoeuvres, some doing aerobatics! Several cadets were fortunate to be allowed to take their mobiles phones up with them, (on airplane mode of course), in order to take selfies; these we are very much looking forward to seeing. Each time the cadets take to the air, their minutes will go towards part of their Blue Wings award.
