Sixth Form Careers Education - Ratcliffe College

Sixth Form Careers Education

Sixth Form Careers – Ages 16-18

We have a dedicated Careers Office based in the heart of the Sixth Form Centre. This is reflects the value we place on Careers Guidance during the Sixth Form years. Run by our Head of Careers, Mrs Kate Grace, we offer individual appointments to cater to students’ busy timetables.

Careers Education takes place within the PSHCE Programme and appears regularly within the Tutor Programme. Students are given information and guidance to make informed choices about their options post-Ratcliffe. Those needing more time can be identified by the Sixth Form team and supported more frequently by the Head of Careers. The aim of Careers Education at Ratcliffe is to enable our students to make well-informed choices about their career and study options and to be well prepared to make these transitions as they move beyond the College.

Students have access to an award-winning, online careers platform. This allows them to compare every undergraduate university course, apprenticeship, and college course across the UK. They can also explore exciting additional opportunities by looking at English taught programmes available in Europe and the USA.

The Careers staff are well practiced in supporting our students with a variety of applications. These include Oxbridge, Medical, Veterinary and Dentistry schools, UCAS and Apprenticeships, alongside applications relating to work, Gap years and study abroad. The College partners with many institutions, organisations and businesses to provide up-to-date advice for our students. We encourage students to recognise and develop key skills that both universities and businesses regard as important for future success.

Our Networks

Our strong network of parents and Old Ratcliffians provide further mentoring and valuable work experience opportunities. These partnerships help give our students an advantage in an increasingly competitive world.

We host several high profile events per year, including a Careers and HE Fair where universities across the country come to Ratcliffe to talk to our students. We also have ‘INSPIRE’ talks, which provide an exciting platform for students to explore different pathways and hear advice from industry experts. Finally, we provide a variety of personalised support sessions including personal statement writing workshops, interview preparation with external professionals, networking events and apprenticeship application support.
