Design and Technology - Ratcliffe College

Design and Technology (Product Design) - Ages 16-18

A Level

In the Sixth Form, students follow a 2-Year OCR A Level in Product Design.  The A Level course is focused towards consumer products and applications, their analysis in respect of materials, components, and marketability, in order to understand their selection and uses in industrial and commercial practices of product development.

Assessment takes place at the end of the two-year linear course via the ‘Iterative Design project’ (50%) and a theoretical examination sat at the end of Year 13 (50%).

Achievements

The Design and Technology department have also enjoyed examination success at A-Level. In the academic year 2016 – 2017, 80% of grades awarded were A*/A, whilst 100% of grades were a pass. Furthermore, the Design and Technology Department’s A Level results were judged as excellent in the externally produced ALPS report and the department was placed in the top 1% nationally for value added.
