Ratcliffe College is excited to announce our new three year GCSE programme. As we are in the top 10% of schools in the country for Value Added, our students already achieve outstanding results in their GCSEs. This new initiative will cement our place among the top performing schools academically.
Our Years 7-8 curriculum offers a firm foundation to build upon, developing subject knowledge and understanding so students can make informed decisions on their GCSE option choices. Student choice is at the centre of our educational philosophy. We strive for all students to be able to select their GCSE preferences.
The 50% increase in teaching time will allow for an enhanced experience, including subject specific enrichment trips. Time to enjoy learning in greater depth allows our students to think ‘big ideas’, ask probing questions and develop their independent learning skills.
At Ratcliffe College, students study bespoke programmes ranging from 7 to 12 GCSEs. There are more than 25 subjects to select from, enabling our students to choose the programme that allows them to follow their passions and talents so they can flourish and thrive.
The three year programme enables students to be taught in small GCSE classes – with an average size of 14 – for three, not two, years. Small class sizes also benefit our students as they are provided with individual attention from their dedicated teachers. The additional time allows students to grow with confidence, and develop expertise in their learning in all curriculum areas.
Pastorally, the students benefit from being able to have more time to focus on their linear examinations, reducing the pressures associated with GCSEs. All GCSES are taken at the end of the course in Year 11. Our three year approach also means that our students can enjoy a wide array of co-curricular activities without compromising their academic studies and well-being.
