Prep Students Sprint into Sports Day - Ratcliffe College

Prep Students Sprint into Sports Day

All School News | 07.07.2021

As ‘Sports Day Season’ arrived at Ratcliffe, there was an atmosphere of great anticipation following the long wait for summer events of this type to return. The white lines of the track were sharp and clear, the sand pit was raked and levelled and the marked out throwing areas were ready to have any and every projectile thrown at it! Even with the return of Sports Day, with bubbles now a fact of life, it was something even Sports Day could not escape.

Despite this challenge, the children’s determination shone through, as they still approached each of their events with unrivalled enthusiasm, energy and excitement after weeks of practice. Tunnels were crawled through; bean bags were hurled, and sand found its way inside shoes! Another strange aspect was parents not being in attendance cheering their children on. However, our superstar students more than made up for this, the atmosphere was electric as they cheered for their classmates, showing full support for everyone who took part, no matter where they finished.

Even the smallest members of the Ratcliffe community got involved, with the Cygnets and Swans children taking part in their own special events.

Head of Early Years Foundation Studies Mrs Ravat said:

“We were delighted to hold our Sport’s Days in Nursery. The children were very excited and had certainly prepared extensively for the event throughout their PE lessons with Mr Faulconbridge.

“The Cygnets weaved their way like wiggly worms through the cones and loved crawling through the tunnel obstacle course. We were incredibly sorry that parents were unable to see their children compete, but know that we will be able to run this event at full capacity in the next academic year and thoroughly look forward to that event. Well done Nursery children!”

Head of Preparatory Sport, Mr Faulconbridge commented:

“As ever, it was the sense of community and togetherness that was the real success of the many sporting extravaganzas which took place, with staff and children coming together to celebrate and cheer on the smallest Cygnets to the tallest Year 6!

“The Ratcliffe Prep School sporting family has once again shown that when we all pull together, simply astounding things are achievable. Thank you to everyone involved for putting together a magnificent seven Sports Days!”
