Ratcliffe College Pupil becomes First Oxbridge Scholar from Sir Thomas White Charity

A recent Ratcliffe College Alumni Hebe Jackson, who left Ratcliffe last summer, has been offered a place to read Modern and Medieval Languages at King’s College, Cambridge after receiving a bursary from The Sir Thomas White charity due to her academic excellence. She will be their first ever Oxbridge scholar.

Hebe Jackson attended Ratcliffe at sixth form after receiving her bursary and achieved A*, A*, A in her recent A level results. She said: “Coming into Ratcliffe Sixth Form from a state school background, has really helped me achieve my potential thanks to the Sir Thomas White Bursary. I have loved my time at Ratcliffe and cannot wait to start the next chapter in my life.”

As a Catholic School, Ratcliffe’s aim is to help children who, under normal circumstances, would not be able to benefit from a Ratcliffe education. Bursaries are available for up to 80% of a student’s School Fee and in exceptional circumstances up to 100%. The Sir Thomas White Charity was founded in 1542 by one of the City’s most generous benefactors, Sir Thomas White. The charity provides a bursary for two years, for one strong academic student joining Ratcliffe College’s Sixth Form from a state school and who lives in Leicestershire or Rutland. The scholarship is for a student who would not have the means to pay for a place normally.
